💚 Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month Know the Signs. Share the Story. Save a Life.Every September, we pause to recognize Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month — a time dedicated to honoring the lives of those affected, raising awareness of this often-overlooked disease, and spreading critical knowledge that could save lives.

Why It Matters

Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women. According to the American Cancer Society, about 20,890 women will receive a new diagnosis of ovarian cancer.  Often called the “silent killer,” it’s notoriously difficult to detect early. That’s because the symptoms can be vague and easily mistaken for other, less serious conditions.
By the time ovarian cancer is diagnosed, it’s frequently in an advanced stage — which makes early detection and awareness more important than ever.

👩‍⚕️ Know the Symptoms

Ovarian cancer doesn’t always scream for attention, but it whispers — and it’s vital that we listen.
Common symptoms include:
  • Persistent bloating
  • Pelvic or abdominal pain
  • Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
  • Urinary urgency or frequency
  • Fatigue
  • Back pain
  • Pain during sex
  • Menstrual changes
If symptoms are new, frequent (more than 12 times a month), and persistent, it’s time to speak with a healthcare provider. Don’t ignore your body’s signals.

đź’ˇ Risk Factors & Facts

  • Age: Most cases occur in women over 50, but younger women can be affected too.
  • Genetics: BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations significantly increase risk.
  • Family history: Having close relatives with ovarian or breast cancer raises your risk.
  • Endometriosis and certain reproductive factors also play a role.
Unfortunately, there is no reliable screening test for ovarian cancer — which is why symptom awareness is crucial.

đź’š How You Can Help

  1. Educate yourself and others
Share symptoms and facts with your network. A simple conversation could save a life.
  2. Wear teal
Teal is the color of ovarian cancer awareness. Wearing it during September helps spark conversations.
  3. Support research and patient advocacy
Donate to or volunteer with organizations like Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) or local cancer support groups.
  4. Honor the fighters and the fallen
Whether you know someone directly or not, take a moment to reflect on the strength of those who face this disease.

🕊️ A Final Word

Ovarian cancer may be stealthy, but so are we — equipped with knowledge, community, and compassion. This September, we at Qvita Health and Wellness will raise our voices, wear our teal proudly, and fight for earlier diagnoses, better treatments, and brighter futures.
Let’s not let silence win.
