If you have damaged or sensitive skin, it can sometimes feel like you get left out of the conversation when it comes to facial treatments. You have to consider more variables when choosing what’s right for you and probably need to stay away from treatments that might aggravate your skin, dry you out, or cause additional damage. More invasive treatments, like skin ablation or resurfacing, are most likely out of reach as well.
Thankfully, not everyone has forgotten about those with sensitive and damaged skin. If this is your skin type, come see our team at Qvita Health & Wellness. Our CEO and leader, Panagiota (Peggy) Demetriou, ARNP, FNP-BC, is proud to offer you a wide range of primary care and cosmetic services. Our practice uses a holistic approach to deliver comprehensive health care that considers all sides of the equation.
We’ll work with you to find treatments that work well with your skin and help you feel refreshed. For instance, our masks are perfect for sensitive, damaged, or recently treated skin. Learn more to see if they could be the treatment you’ve been looking for.
On sensitive skin
Almost every ad for skincare seems to tout its benefits for sensitive skin, but what does the term mean exactly? As you may have guessed, “sensitive skin” isn’t a clinical term. Dermatologists and other skin experts use it to describe skin that’s easy to irritate. People with sensitive skin often experience some of the following symptoms:
- Reactivity to temperature, products, and materials
- Stinging
- Burning
- Tightness
- Redness
- Dryness
- Rashes
- Breakouts
Sensitive skin can also be a hazard outside — many patients find that they’re susceptible to sunburns.
What’s behind sensitive skin?
Anyone’s skin can be sensitive to certain items or ingredients. However, most people with sensitive skin find that they’re dealing with ongoing sensitivity. Oftentimes, sensitive skin caused by a condition can be hereditary. Common conditions that cause sensitive skin and skin reactions include:
- Eczema
- Dermatitis
- Rosacea
- Urticaria (hives)
- Psoriasis
- Immune conditions (cutaneous mastocytosis, photodermatoses)
Your skin may become more sensitive as you age as well.
